The situation in Liechtensteins labour market worsened for youth in August compared to July, but overall the unemployment rate remained virtually unchanged. Job vacancies increased sharply in comparison to August 2015.
By the end of August, 435 unemployed people had registered with the Labour Market Service Liechtenstein (AMS FL). According to a statement from the governments Department for Information and Communication (IKR), this is seven more people than the previous month but six less than in August 2015. At 2.2 per cent, the unemployment rate in August 2016 remained unchanged compared to the previous month.
Youth unemployment rose in August by 19 people or 35.8 per cent to 72 people between the ages of 15 and 24 compared to the previous month to reach 3.1 per cent. But in comparison to August 2015, it rose by only four people or 5.9 per cent. In the over-50 category, unemployment rose by four people to reach 127 over the previous month. Compared to August 2015, this was an increase of only one person in the 50+ category. In the 25 to 49-year-old age group, unemployment actually shrank by 6.3 per cent or 16 people compared to July to reach 236 people to reach a rate of 2.2 per cent. In August 2015, 4.5 per cent or 11 people in this age category registered as unemployed.
Temporary unemployment in August 2016 accounted for a total of the 133 people who were also registered as unemployed. The AMS FL recorded a total of 83 registrations and 76 de-registrations in its monthly report. There were 823 job vacancies, which was 1 per cent higher than in July. Compared to the same month last year, there were 386 more vacancies or an increase of 88.3 per cent.
